Large aplique wall hanging from Kutch
Large aplique wall hanging from Kutch
The women of Sumrasa in Kutch have always made beautiful embroidery. It is very time consuming and requires a deft touch and good eysight.
Once your sight was not strong enough for this delicate work you would be retired and no loner able to earn extra money.
The people at the Kala Raksha organisation, who help promote and collect traditional crafts, suggested that the women start making simple aplique representaions of their every day life, telling stories through their art.
Each one is unique but this was the only one i found remotely like it.
It is 57 x 82.5cm and has a loop at the back for hanging purposes.
